Ulalo Promotes Environmental Conservation Through Beekeeping

Ulalo trained 29 community members in beekeeping to boost conservation and livelihoods in Magogo.

Excitement is building in Mzimba as communities step up to protect their natural resources. From 23 April 2025, Ulalo conducted a five day beekeeping training at Magogo Primary School, bringing together 29 participants from Village Natural Resources Management Committees (VNRMCs) who are working tirelessly to conserve the Magogo Forest.

The training, is part of the Community Activation Natural Resources Management and Improvement of Social Infrastructure (CANARASI) project, equipped participants with practical skills in sustainable beekeeping offering a new pathway to both forest protection and economic empowerment.

The CANARASI project is implemented in TA Mtwalo and TA Mpherembe with support from Chancen durch Bildung (CdB).

Speaking at the close of the training, GVH Mthuzi Mithi, one of the participants, reflected on the value of the new skills:

"We are greatly empowered through this project. We didn’t know that our efforts in conserving the forest would bring such economic benefits to our communities. We will make sure we utilize the knowledge and skills gained during this training."

By combining conservation with livelihoods like beekeeping, the project is helping to lay a foundation for sustainable development and resilient communities.

As participants return home, they carry with them not only modern skills but also a renewed commitment to safeguard their forests for generations to come.
