Ulalo Staff Complete Mentors for Change Programme and Ready to Empower Teachers

Ulalo members of staff, some of them took part in the training.

At Ulalo, we know that lasting change in education begins with teachers, the people who inspire, guide, and shape the next generation. This month, we are proud to share that twelve of our staff have completed TeachUNITED’s Mentors for Change (Educator Coaching) programme.

This marks the successful close of  Phase 1, where our team formed a learning cohort and trained under the guidance of Dr. Issaya Ipyana, Direct Services Coach at TeachUNITED. Through access to online courses, one-on-one mentorship, and engaging webinars and workshops, our staff gained skills to strengthen schools from within.

The training equipped them with the confidence and strategies to coach teachers across our school networks. With this foundation, they are now ready for  Phase 2, supporting teachers directly. Armed with TeachUNITED’s toolkit of webinar templates, schedules, handouts, and reflection activities, Ulalo staff will lead professional development to improve teaching strategies in personalized learning, student engagement, and effective use of data.

For our team, the programme has been transformative.

“Completing the programme empowered me with both the confidence and strategies to support teachers in meaningful ways. I now feel ready to help transform classroom learning.” said Mphatso Harris Kalambo, School Performance Officer.

From leadership, the value of this collaboration is clear:

“Partnering with TeachUNITED through the Mentors for Change programme has been transformative for our organization. By training our staff to become effective coaches, we are not only lifting the quality of teaching today but also laying the foundation for long-term, sustainable improvement across our schools.” said James Gondwe, Executive Director.

As our staff step into their new roles as mentors for change, we are energized by what lies ahead. With continued support from TeachUNITED, we envision classrooms that are more engaging, schools that are more resilient, and communities where every child has access to high-quality education.

This is just the beginning. Together with our partners, communities, and teachers, Ulalo is building the future of education in Malawi.
