Ulalo Celebrates the International Day of the Girl Child at Luvwere CDSS

A moment of joy, a message of empowerment, Reusable pads that keep girls in school and dreams alive

As part of the 2025 International Day of the Girl Child celebrations, Ulalo’s female staff visited Luvwere Community Day Secondary School (CDSS) in Mzimba North with one mission to inspire, motivate, and empower young girls to believe in their potential.

The visit created a safe and inspiring space for open conversations about education, leadership, and the challenges girls face in their journey to success. Through mentorship and storytelling, Ulalo’s team encouraged the students to dream boldly and take ownership of their futures.

“I feel so motivated to dream bigger and take charge of my future!” shared Alice Nyondo, one of the students who attended the session. Her excitement mirrored the hopeful spirit of the day a reflection of what happens when girls are given the confidence and support to rise.

Beyond motivation, Ulalo also extended practical support by distributing 70 reusable sanitary pads to the students. The gesture aimed to help girls manage their menstrual health with dignity and ensure that periods never become a barrier to education.

“These pads will make a real difference,” Alice added with gratitude, acknowledging the impact of having access to sustainable menstrual hygiene solutions.

This year’s global theme, “The girl I am, the change I lead: Girls on the frontlines of crisis,” recognizes the resilience, leadership, and transformative power of girls worldwide even in the face of challenges. Ulalo’s initiative aligns with this theme, affirming the organization’s commitment to empowering young women as active agents of change in their communities.

Reflecting on the day, Chifundo Chidumu, Ulalo’s Director of Operations and Resources, emphasized the importance of continuous investment in girls’ development:

“When we empower a girl, we empower an entire community. Every opportunity we create for her to learn, lead, and thrive contributes to building a stronger, more inclusive society.”

Ulalo extends heartfelt appreciation to its partners and supporters for standing alongside the organization in championing gender equality and the empowerment of girls across Malawi.

Girls should lead and shape technology, not just use it.
