Chisasila Primary Extends Learning Beyond Class Periods

Education is the passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it today.” - Malcolm X

In a community where education is cherished, parents, guardians and staff at Chisasila primary school in Kachere zone, Nkhatabay, recognised the importance of uninterrupted learning.

They decided to extend the Building Educational Foundations through Innovation and Technology (BEFIT) sessions into the holidays stating that 25 minutes a day attending the sessions will not affect their rest, but rather help them remember foundational skills for their future studies.

The aim of these sessions was to ensure children remain engaged and continue to grow academically.

This effort underscores the community’s commitment in providing quality education and fostering a supportive environment for its learners.

Right Zgambo, EduTech facilitator for Kachere zone expressed gratitude to the interest of community members in the BEFIT program which prompted them to formally agree on the extension period.

“The community motivated us to extend the sessions because, we all have a common goal which is to engage the learners and ensure they have access to quality foundational education.” Said Zgambo.

Flary Msiska a standard 1 teacher at Chisasila primary school also acknowledged the community’s willingness to help the students gain skills during their break. She described the holiday sessions as essential because the learners will not forget what they were taught and this will help them gain extra confidence in their studies.

“We wanted the learners to fully explore the tablet sessions and their willingness to learn motivated us to further the sessions during the break.” Commented Msiska.

Reacting to the development, School Performance Officer (SPO) Mphatso Kalombo said the initiative by the community members in Kachere zone has shown acceptance and ownership of the program.

He emphasised that communities like Kachere zone are the reason teachers, partners and designated officers are motivated to deliver good services because they are serving a community that is showing interest of the program.

“I am really proud of Kachere Zone because they have shown interest and acceptance of the program which is motivating us to deliver good support in enhancing quality education. Furthermore, the community is understanding the end goal of BEFIT and government come 2029.” Said Kalambo.

Together, we will continue to partner with the government and any other interested partners to provide quality education, paving the way for a brighter future for Malawi through the young minds we nurture.
