The District Executive Committee (DEC) in Rumphi has officially approved the construction of a Dining Hall and Kitchen at Jalawe Community Day Secondary School (CDSS), following a comprehensive presentation of the project on Thursday.
The six-month initiative, being implemented in partnership with Switzerland based International Project Aid, is expected to directly benefit over 450 students.
The new facility will serve as both a dining space and a multipurpose hall for school and community functions.
The design of the project
Speaking after the session, Rumphi District’s Director of Education, Youth and Sports, Fides Msowoya, described the project as “life changing and education-boosting,” highlighting its role in improving student welfare and learning environments.
On his part Yewo Msiska, Programs Manager for Ulalo, emphasized the importance of collaboration, stating, “We will ensure that in all the steps we involve the education office, and mostly we are happy that the community is supporting the initiative.”
The DEC session was marked by strong support, with members actively engaging and raising key questions, which were effectively addressed by technical and departmental representatives. The committee commended the project’s objectives and endorsed its implementation.
Construction is expected to commence in the coming weeks, with the facility anticipated to enhance the school’s infrastructure and strengthen ties with the surrounding community.
The project is financed with generous support from Switzerland-based International Project Aid.
