Hello Future Learners Are Making a Lasting Impact in Their Schools and Communities Through Digital Literacy
Empowering learners to become digital leaders in their schools and communities.
Digital Literacy: Empowering Young People to Lead Change
As the world becomes increasingly digital, technology has transformed the way people learn, communicate, and access information. While digital platforms provide endless opportunities for education and innovation, they have also created new challenges. Misinformation, fake news, and AI-generated content are spreading rapidly across the internet, making digital literacy more important than ever.
Through the Hello Future Digital Lessons, learners at Bwengu Community Day Secondary School (CDSS) are gaining the critical thinking and digital literacy skills needed to distinguish credible information from false or misleading content. More importantly, they are taking these lessons beyond the classroom and becoming digital ambassadors within their schools, families, and communities.
Sharing Knowledge Beyond the Classroom
The knowledge acquired during Hello Future digital classes is not ending in the classroom. Learners are confidently sharing what they have learned with fellow students, family members, neighbors, and community members. They are helping others understand how to identify misinformation, verify online content, and use digital platforms responsibly.

Nellisa Is Helping Her Friends Understand AI
For Nellisa Kumwenda, a Form 3 student at Bwengu CDSS, digital literacy has become a tool for creating positive change.
After participating in Hello Future digital classes, Nellisa realized that many of her friends believed AI-generated videos they watched on TikTok were real. One example was videos showing cats dancing, which many of her friends accepted as genuine.
Nellisa presents on why we should not believe everything we see online
Rather than ignoring the misunderstanding, Nellisa decided to educate them about Artificial Intelligence (AI), explaining how AI-generated content is created and why people should question what they see online.
"I challenged them by saying we should make the school cat dance. When it couldn't, I explained that many videos online are created using AI or editing tools for entertainment, while others are intended to mislead people. I taught them to think critically before believing or sharing online content."
Her initiative has helped her friends become more aware that not everything on social media is real.
Gomezyani Is Protecting His Community from Fake News
Another Hello Future learner, Gomezyani Sakala, a Form 3 student, shared to his classmates how he is using his digital literacy skills to educate his family and neighbors.
Gomezyani shares how Hello Future digital lessons are having an impact in his community
One day, he found family and community members discussing a news story shared on social media. While everyone believed it was genuine, Gomezyani noticed that the image and the caption did not match.
He took the opportunity to explain how to identify fake news by comparing images with captions and checking whether they tell the same story.
"I taught them to compare the images with the caption and to verify whether the people shown in the pictures are the same people mentioned in the story. I also explained that they should rely on verified news pages and not believe everything they see online."
His family now takes time to verify information before sharing it with others.
Young People Creating Positive Change
The experiences of Nellisa and Gomezyani show that Hello Future learners are becoming champions of digital literacy. They are not only applying their knowledge in school but are also helping families, friends, and communities become more aware of misinformation and responsible digital citizenship.
Digital literacy is driving positive change and fostering a culture of learning at Bwengu CDSS.
As smartphone ownership continues to grow across Malawi, these young people are helping build communities that are better equipped to identify credible information and make informed decisions online.
