Bringing Healthcare Closer

How Kazuni is Building its own Future

Construction of the Kazuni Community Development Centre underway, bringing essential healthcare services closer to the community

In Kazuni, a quiet but powerful transformation is underway. For the first time in years, a community that has long struggled to access healthcare sees a solution on the horizon.

Ulalo, in partnership with Chancen durch Bildung, is constructing a Community Development Centre (CDC) that will bring multiple services together including a room with a health desk, bringing essential healthcare services closer to the people.

A Long Journey for Basic Care

For years, community members have walked 15 to 20 kilometers to access healthcare, an exhausting journey, especially for the elderly, pregnant women, and families with young children.

Without nearby services, many delayed or missed critical care.

Nancy Gondwe, a community member living with high blood pressure, looks forward to accessing healthcare services closer to home.

Nancy Gondwe, an elderly woman living with high blood pressure, knows this struggle all too well. Each visit to a distant health facility has been physically demanding and often delayed.

“We will be greatly helped. I have high blood pressure, and my grandchildren are under five. This clinic will benefit us a lot.”

A Community Taking Ownership

What makes this project unique is the level of community ownership.

Men and women are actively contributing, cleaning the site, fetching water, and supporting construction, demonstrating a shared commitment to building a solution that will serve them for years to come.

This collective effort reflects not only need, but belief that change is possible when communities lead.

A New Beginning for Mothers and Children

Grace Longwe, a mother of two young children, has faced significant challenges of accessing antenatal and under-five services due to distance and transport barriers.

“The nightmare of limited healthcare is now ending for us. We will now be able to access services closer to home.

Today, she actively participates in the construction, knowing that the clinic will transform the lives of families like hers.

Building a Healthier Future Together

The Kazuni Community Development Centre is presenting a locally driven solution to a long-standing challenge.

Through partnerships with communities and organisations such as Chancen durch Bildung, Ulalo is supporting systems that bring essential services closer to people.

Kazuni is not just receiving a clinic, it is building a healthier future through collective action.

Through initiatives like this, Ulalo continues to work with communities to strengthen systems, expand access to essential services, and create pathways for people to thrive

In Kazuni, the future of healthcare is no longer distant, it is being built, together.
